Diagnostics and surveillance of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), Hanta (HNT) and Monkeypox (Mpox) in Kosovo 2023

We have been represented in Kosovo since the start of the biosecurity programme in 2013.

The main focus of our collaboration is on training laboratory staff in biosafety and biosecurity and in the detection and diagnosis of highly pathogenic viruses in order to prevent their spread. Another focus is on theoretical and practical training of hospital staff in biosafety and biosecurity when handling infectious patient materials. For quality assurance of diagnostics, we carry out serological and molecular genetic ring tests for CCHFV, HNTV and MPOXV on site. We support and improve on-site diagnostics with additional materials and, in some cases, equipment. Since 2013, we have been carrying out tick monitoring in collaboration with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Prishtina. As part of this collaboration, there is a constant exchange of information, including through presentations at national and international congresses.

Three researchers in lab coats can be seen in the laboratory, two are sitting at a laboratory table on which various laboratory utensils and notes are lying. A third researcher stands behind the two seated researchers. They all look towards the camera.
