Assessing awareness, knowledge and practices of Female Genital Schistosomiasis in multisectoral health care professionals in Europe: a cross-sectional survey – AFES
Despite being a significant public health concern in many parts of the world, FGS remains largely under-studied and under-diagnosed in Europe. Case studies on this topic are scarce. This is possibly due to a lack of awareness and understanding of the disease not only among the general population but as well as healthcare professionals. There also seem to be no clear guideline on which health care specialists would be responsible for screening, diagnosing and treating FGS in Europe. Unfortunately, there is no available data on the prevalence of FGS in Europe, and to the best of our knowledge, there are no established inter-European guidelines or strategies for its screening, diagnosis, or treatment. AFES aims at assessing the level of awareness, knowledge and practices regarding FGS among healthcare professionals in the Europe. The survey will focus on knowledge of the disease and its pathogenic agent, medical presentation, screening and diagnostic methods and treatment options for FGS.
